Soak green gram in water for 8 hours then drain the water and keep it aside.
In a pressure cooker add the soaked green gram, salt to taste. Submerge green gram with water. Pressure cook the gram for 4 minutes or for 1 whistle. Once the pressure release drain all the water from green gram and keep it aside.
In a pan heat oil. Now add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, dry chili, curry leaves, asafoetida. Once the mustard seed stop splattering add coconut and sauté for 30 seconds.
Now add the cooked green gram. sauté for 2 minutes and serve.
