INGREDIENTS:

  1. Nandu (Crab) - 1/2 kilogram
  2. Chopped tomato - 1
  3. Chopped Shallot (sambar onion) - 25 grams
  4. Slit Green chili (small) - 2
  5. Curry leaf - 10 count
  6. Fennel seed - 1 teaspoon (tsp.)
  7. Cinnamon stick - small piece
  8. Bay leaf - 1 count
  9. Kulambu (curry) powder - 2 tablespoon (tbsp.)
  10. Shredded coconut - from 1/4 coconut
  11. Black pepper - 1 teaspoon (tsp.)
  12. Garlic clove - 5
  13. Oil - 3 tablespoon (tbsp.)
  14. Salt - as needed

PREPARATION:

  1. Grind black pepper, garlic cloves, coconut into a fine thick paste by adding little water as possible.
  2. In a bowl add nandu (crab), kulambu (curry) powder, salt. Mix well and marinate them for at least 15 min.
  3. In a pan heat oil, add fennel seeds, cinnamon stick, bay leaf, curry leaves and sauté until they curry leaves stop splattering.
  4. Now add green chili, shallot (samba onion) and sautae until the onion turns translucent (golden brown).
  5. Now add the tomato and sauté until they beome mushy and oil starts to separate.
  6. Now add the marinated nandu (crab) and mix well.
  7. Now add the coconut paste, salt, water as needed. Cook this until the nandu (crab) is cooked and oil starts to separate.

NOTES:

  1. Goes well with white rice and shallot (small onion) sambar.
  2. Goes well with idli, dosai.
