INGREDIENTS:

  1. Fish pieces - 1/2 kilogram
  2. Tamarind - 1 big gooseberry size
  3. Curry leaf - 10 count
  4. Coriander leaf - little for garnish
  5. Chopped onion - 1 big
  6. Chopped Tomato - 1
  7. Slit green chili - 4
  8. Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon (tsp.)
  9. Chili powder - 1 1/2 tablespoon (tsp.)
  10. Mustard seed - 1/4 teaspoon (tsp.)
  11. Fenugreek seed - 1/4 teaspoon (tsp.)
  12. Oil - 1 tablespoon (tbsp.)
  13. Salt - as needed.

PREPARATION:

  1. Soak tamarind in 2 1/2 cup of water and take tamarind juice.
  2. In a pan heat oil. Add mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds. Once the mustard seeds stop splattering add onion and sauté until they are translucent.
  3. Now add tomato and sauté until they become mushy.
  4. Now add tamarind water, turmeric powder, chili powder, salt and bring to boil. Place a lid and cook this for 8 to 10 minutes or until the raw smell is gone.
  5. Now add the fish pieces, slit green chilies. Place a lid and cook this medium to low heat for 4 to 5 minutes until the fish is cooked.
  6. Now add curry leaves and coriander leaves. Remove from heat and serve.

NOTES:

  1. Goes well with plain rice.
  2. You can use Vadagam instead of mustard seeds and fenugreek seeds.
  3. Preparation time: 30 minutes.
