INGREDIENTS:

  1. Fish - 1/4 kilogram
  2. Tamarind - 1 lemon size
  3. Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon (tsp.)
  4. -- Grind to a Paste--
    1. Black pepper - 1 teaspoon (tsp.)
    2. Garlic - 8 cloves
    3. Chili powder - 1 1/2 teaspoon (tsp.)
    4. Coriander powder - 2 teaspoon (tsp.)
    5. Shallot (sambar onion) - 10
    6. Tomato - 1
  5. -- For Tempering --
    1. Finely chopped onion - 1
    2. Fenugreek seed - 1/2 teaspoon (tsp.)
    3. Mustard seed - 1/2 teaspoon (tsp.)
    4. Cumin seed - 1/2 teaspoon (tsp.)
    5. Curry leaf - handful
    6. Oil - as needed

PREPARATION:

  1. Grind ingredients under section "Grind to a Paste" to a fine paste by adding little water as possible.
  2. Soak tamarind in 1/2 cup of water and take juice.
  3. Now add ground paste to the tamarind water, turmeric powder, salt, add water as needed. NOTE: water depends on the amount of curry you need.
  4. In a pan heat oil, add mustard seed, cumin seed, fenugreek seed once the mustard seed stop splattering. Now add curry leaf and sauté for 30 seconds.
  5. Now add onion and sauté until it turns golden brown.
  6. Now add the tamarind mixture and bring to boil.  Boil and cook until the raw smell is gone
  7. Now add the fish, Place a lid, simmer and cook for 5 minutes or when oil raises.
