INGREDIENTS:
- Split Green gram - 100 grams
- Jaggery - 150 grams
- Fresh shredded coconut - 1/2 cup
- Rice flour - 1/2 tablespoon (tbsp.)
- Cardamom - 2
- Cashew - 10
PREPARATION:
- Grind coconut, cardamom, rice flour, 2 tablespoon of water and grind to paste.
- Break the jaggery into very small pieces. Dissolve the jaggery in 1/2 cup water. Strain the jaggery water and keep it aside.
- Cook the green gram by simmering in water until its well mashed. (takes about 15 to 20 minutes, you can pressure cook too).
- Now add jaggery water to the mashed green gram, stir well and cook for 5 minutes.
- Now add ground coconut and cook until it foams and close to start boiling. Remove from stove and keep it aside.
- Roast the cashew nuts in ghee; add to the payasam mix well and serve.
