INGREDIENTS:
- Green gram (pasi paruppu) - 1/4 cup
- Coconut - 1/2 or 1
- Green chili paste - 2 teaspoon (tsp.) or from 4 green chili
- Finely chopped Onion - 2
- Finely chopped Tomato - 2
- Finely chopped Ginger - 1 inch
- Finely chopped Garlic - 6 cloves
- Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon (tsp.)
- Lemon juice - 2 teaspoon (tsp.)
- Curry leaf - 5
- -- For tempering--
- Cinnamon stick - 1 inch
- Curry leaf - 5
- Oil - 2 tablespoon (tbsp.)
- Salt - to taste
PREPARATION:
- Pressure cook green gram, turmeric powder by adding 3/4 cup of water.
- Grind the coconut pulp by adding 1 1/2 cup of water and get the milk (first thick milk). Now add another 1 1/2 cup of water and get the light milk (second light milk)
- Now add the second light milk, tomato, green chili paste, ginger, garlic, salt to taste to green gram and cook until onion is well cooked.
- Now add the first thick milk, lemon juice, 5 curry leaves and keep it aside.
- In a pan heat oil, add cinnamon stick, curry leaves sauté for 1 min and add to green gram sambar and serve.
NOTES:
- Goes well with idly, rice and iddiyappam.
