INGREDIENTS:

  1. Arainellikai (Malay gooseberry) - 10 count
  2. Dry chili - 8 count
  3. Mustard seed - 1/2 teaspoon (tsp.)
  4. Fenugreek seed - 1 teaspoon (tsp.)
  5. Asafoetida piece - pin head size.
  6. Curry leaf - 2 sprig
  7. Turmeric powder - 2 pinch
  8. Sesame oil - 1/4 cup
  9. Salt - 1 1/2 teaspoon (tsp.)

PREPARATION:

  1. Steam and cook the Arainellikai (Malay gooseberry) in idli pan. once cooked remove the seed.
  2. In a pan head oil add dry chili, fenugreek seeds, asafoetida piece, mustard seeds and roast them for about 3 minutes to light golden brown. Cool this to room temperature and grind to fine powder.
  3. In a pan heat oil. now add curry leaves, ground powder and sauté. NOTE: don't burn it.
  4. Now add the Arainellikai (Malay gooseberry) and cook for at least five minutes.
  5. Now add turmeric powder, salt and mix well. Cook this for 2 more minutes and remove from heat. pickle is ready to be served.
