INGREDIENTS:

  1. Boiled Channa (chick pea or bengal gram) - 2 1/2 cup
  2. Cinnamon stick - 1 inch
  3. Cloves - 2
  4. Finely chopped red onion - 1
  5. Ginger garlic paste - 1 teaspoon (tsp)
  6. Slit green chilies - 1
  7. Finely chopped tomatoes - 1
  8. Tamarind paste - 1/2 teaspoon (tsp)
  9. Chili powder - 1 teaspoon (tsp)
  10. Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon (tsp)
  11. Cumin powder - 1/2 teaspoon (tsp)
  12. Channa (chick pea or bengal gram) masala powder - 1/2 teaspoon (tsp) (optional)
  13. Coriander leaves - 1/2 cup
  14. Water - 2 cups
  15. Salt - to taste.

PREPARATION:

  1. In a pan heat oil, add cinnamon stick and cloves. Then add the onions, green chili and cook until onion turns light brown.
  2. Now add the ginger garlic paste, turmeric powder for few minutes.
  3. Now add the tomatoes and cook until oil separates.
  4. Now add Chili powder, Coriander powder , Cumin powder and Channa (chick pea or bengal gram) masala powder and cook for few min.
  5. Now add the tamarind and sauté for a minute. Add water and salt and bring to boil.
  6. Simmer and cook until the gravy becomes thick.
  7. Now add the boiled channa and bring to boil. Add coriander leaves then remove from heat and serve.

NOTES:

  1. To make boiled Channa (chick pea or bengal gram), soak them overnight and pressure cook them for 2 whistle or just boil them in a pan until well done.
