INGREDIENTS:

  1. Potato - 1
  2. Chopped onion - 1
  3. Chopped small tomato - 1
  4. Mustard seed - 1/2 teaspoon (tsp.)
  5. Fennel seed - 1/2 teaspoon (tsp.)
  6. Split Bengal gram - 1/2 teaspoon (tsp.)
  7. Curry leaf - little
  8. Dry chili - 2
  9. Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon (tsp.)
  10. Coriander leaf - little
  11. Oil - 2 teaspoon (tsp.)
  12. Salt - to taste

PREPARATION:

  1. Cube the potato. Boil them in water by adding salt as needed until they are 3/4th cooked . Drain all the liquid and keep it side.
  2. In a pan heat oil, add mustard seeds, fennel seeds, curry leaves, dry chili and temper (Thaalithal (தாளித்தல்)) them.
  3. Now add the chopped onion and sauté until they are translucent.
  4. Now add chopped tomato, turmeric powder and sauté until the tomato becomes mushy.
  5. Now add the cooked potato pieces, salt if needed and mix well. Place a lid and cook this for 5 minutes. NOTE: time to time check to avoid burning. you might want to lower the heat.
  6. Once the potato pieces are cooked and well coated with masala, garnish with coriander leaves and serve.
