INGREDIENTS:

  1. Rice - 2 cup
  2. Shredded coconut - 1 cup
  3. Mustard seed - 1/2 teaspoon (tsp.)
  4. Asafoetida powder - a pinch
  5. Split bengal gram - 1 teaspoon (tsp.)
  6. Split black gram - 1 teaspoon (tsp.)
  7. Dry chili - 4
  8. Curry leaf - 5
  9. Oil - 5 teaspoon (tsp.)
  10. Salt - to taste.

PREPARATION:

  1. Grind  rice to coarse like rava.
  2. Heat oil in a pan; add mustard seeds, bengal gram, black gram, curry leaf, asafoetida power, dry chili (broken into pieces) sauté until mustard seed stop splattering.
  3. Now add 3 1/2 cup water, salt to taste, coconut and bring to boil.
  4. Now add rice slowly, stir until it the rice get thick (like upma). Remove from heat and cool it down.
  5. Make balls with the rice upma. In a idly cooker steam these balls and serve.
