  1. Plantain stem - 1
  2. Finely chopped Onion - 1
  3. Pigeon pea - 3 tablespoon (tbsp.)
  4. Bengal gram - 3 tablespoon (tbsp.)
  5. Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon (tsp.)
  6. -- Grind to paste --
    1. Fresh shredded coconut - 4 tablespoon (tsp.)
    2. Green chili - 3
    3. Ginger - 1/2 inch
  7. Yogurt or curd - 50 milliliter
  8. Mustard seed - 1/4 teaspoon (tsp.)
  9. Curry leaf - 5
  10. Salt - as needed


  1. Clean and chop the plantain stem into 1 inch cubes. NOTE: you need to remove as much fiber as possible.
  2. Grind coconut, green chili, ginger into a paste by adding little water as possible.
  3. In a pressure cooker add plantain stem cubes, pigeon pea, bengal garam, turmeric powder, salt as needed, water as needed and cook them for 2 whistle.
  4. Once the pressure released add the cooked plantain stem cubes, ground coconut paste to yogurt or curd; mix well and keep it aside.
  5. In a pan heat oil, add mustard seed; once the mustard seeds stop splattering add onion, curry leaves and sauté until the onion turns translucent (golden brown). Add this to yogurt or curd mixture.
  6. Mix well and serve.
