  1. Pappali kai (raw papaya) - 1
  2. Coconut - 2 wedge
  3. Green chili - 2
  4. Turmeric powder - 1 teaspoon (tsp.)
  5. Tamarind - gooseberry size
  6. Chopped Onion - 1
  7. Dry chili - 4
  8. Mustard seed - 1 teaspoon (tsp.)
  9. Coconut oil - 3 teaspoon (tsp.)
  10. Salt - to taste


  1. Grind coconut, green chili, little turmeric powder, water as needed and grind to a thick pate.
  2. Peel the skin;  remove the seeds from the papaya and cut in small cubes.
  3. In a pan add papaya, little turmeric powder, salt, water as needed and cook them. Once they are cooked add the ground coconut paste, thick tamarind juice. Bring to boil and cook them until raw smell is gone and right thickness is reached to your preference.
  4. In a pan heat oil, add mustard seeds, curry leaves, dry chili. once the mustard seeds stop splattering add the onion and sautae until they become translucent (golden brown). Now add this to the cooking koottu.
  5. Remove kootu from heat and serve.
