INGREDIENTS:

  1. Pigeon pea (red gram) - 1 cup
  2. Chopped Onion - 1
  3. Chopped Dry hot chilies - 3 (broken into pieces)
  4. Chopped Garlic - 2 (optional)
  5. Turmeric powder - 1 teaspoon (tsp.)
  6. Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon (tsp.)
  7. Shredded Ginger - 1 tablespoon (tbsp.)
  8. Chopped Ripe tomatoes - 3
  9. Asafoetida powder - 1/4 teaspoon (tsp.)
  10. Salt - to taste
  11. Oil or olive oil – 3 or 4 tablespoon (tbsp.)

PREPARATION:

  1. Pressure cook pigeon pea (red gram) for 5 to 6 whistle by adding 2 cups of water, salt to taste, garlic and turmeric powder. Mash the pigeon pea and keep it aside.
  2. In a pan heat oil. Add asafoetida, hot chili and sauté for 1 min.
  3. Now add chopped onion and sauté until it turn golden brown.
  4. Now add chopped ginger and sauté until the raw smell is gone.
  5. Now Add the chopped tomatoes and sauté until oil separates.
  6. Now add the cooked Pigeon pea paste.
  7. Simmer and cook until the right thickness is reached and serve.
