  1. Rajma (red kidney bean) - 2 cup
  2. Idli rice - 1/2 cup
  3. Dry chili - 4
  4. Tamarind - 1 small goose berry size
  5. Oil - as needed
  6. Salt - as needed


  1. Soak rajma (red kidney bean) and idli rice separately in water for 4 to 5 hours. NOTE: make sure rajma (red kidney bean) is soaked well.
  2. Remove all the liquid from rajma (red kidney bean). Grind rajma (red kidney bean), tamarind, dry chili into a fine thick batter.
  3. Grind soaked idli rice to fine thick batter.
  4. Mix rajma (red kidney bean) batter, rice batter, salt. Add water if needed and make battery consistency you will make for dosai.
  5. Now make adai or dosai with the batter and serve.
  6. -- Making the Dosai or Adai --
  7. Heat a iron skillet.
  8. Coat with oil. Once the oil is hot enough pour a ladle of batter and spread it around to a thin round sheet.
  9. Once the bottom side is cooked. Flip it over and cook the other side and serve.


  1. You can useĀ  Idli batter - 1 cup instead of Idli rice.
  2. Goes well with chutney.
