INGREDIENTS:

  1. Chopped Capsicum - 1
  2. Mustard seed - 1 teaspoon (tsp.)
  3. Cumin seed - 1/2 teaspoon (tsp.)
  4. Split Bengal gram - 1 tablespoon (tbsp.)
  5. Split black gram - 1 tablespoon (tbsp.)
  6. Dry chili - 3
  7. Asafoetida powder - 1/4 teaspoon (tsp.)
  8. Tamarind - little
  9. Shredded coconut - 2 tablespoon (tbsp.)
  10. Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon (tsp.) + 1/2 teaspoon (tsp.)
  11. Salt - as needed

PREPARATION:

  1. Heat 1 teaspoon (tsp.) of oil. add mustard seeds once it stop splattering. add dry chili, split Bengal gram, split black gram, asafoetida powder and sauté until the grams become golden brown.
  2. Now add the chopped capsicum and sauté until the capsicum is sautéed and keep it aside.
  3. Now grind the sautéed capsicum, coconut, salt in grind a thick paste (thuvaiyal) by adding water if needed.
  4. In a pan heat 1/2 teaspoon (tsp.) of oil. Add the ground paste and sauté for 2 to 3 minutes and serve.

NOTES:

  1. Tempering at the end is optional. if you are follow diet you can skip coconut.
