INGREDIENTS:

  1. Mutton - 1/4 kilogram
  2. Shallot (small onion) - 150 grams
  3. Dry chili - 4 or 5
  4. Black pepper powder - 1 teaspoon (tsp.)
  5. -- For Tempering --
    1. Mustard seed - 1/2 teaspoon (tsp.)
    2. Spit black gram - 1/2 teaspoon (tsp.)
    3. Fennel seed - 1/2 teaspoon (tsp.)
    4. Curry leaf - from 1 sprig
  6. Salt - to taste

PREPARATION:

  1. Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, fennel seeds, spit black gram. Once the mustard seeds stop splattering add curry leaves, dry chili until the dry chili turns brown.
  2. Now add shallots and sauté until  they turn golden brown.
  3. Now add the mutton, turmeric powder, salt, 2 tumbler of water. Pressure cook this until the mutton is cooked. NOTE: mutton will be dry. if not cook it until all the water evaporates.
  4. In a pan heat oil add the cooked (dry) mutton, black pepper, curry leave and sauté for couple of minutes and serve.

NOTES:

  1. Goes well with sambar rice.
